Two point perspective buildings
My two point perspective drawing was of “The Little Red School House”.
I choose this because this building was right outside my class and I could see it and refer back to my artwork and also because it fascinated me because of it’s historical aspect.
I am proud of my art all together but what I am the most pleased about is the windows because I feel they are up to scale and accurate.
My ultimate goal was to be semi accurate when it came to making the project look realistic. I believe I was successful. My piece helped me appreciate the strategies and math behind creating two point perspective drawings.
Identity project
My art piece is an abstract drawing that showcases my faith. As a christian, it is very important to me. I choose to draw triangular shapes all over the skin of my face in the portrait . I wanted that to resemble a church window with its vibrant colors. I used triangles to show that my faith made up every part of me. My religion helps me through dark, and that is why I drew a black/grey background with bible verses over it. I am most proud of how well I pulled off an abstract theme and also making it represent a deep meaning.
The art media I used was graphite pencil, charcoal pencil, colored pencil and pen.
My ultimate goal was to display the importance of my faith and how it helps me through anything. I believe I got that across very well. This project helped me see the things other people value and get to know them better. It was very interesting.
Sculpture Project
My sculpture project is the Sears Tower in Chicago, Illinois. I chose to create a replica of this building because I lived in Chicago for many years and have a sentimental attachment to the city, and because I thought this would be a piece that would challenge me. I first constructed the tower in cardboard strips that I hot-glued into little boxes which I stacked up on one another. I then wrapped the cardboard in black felt and glued square shaped cutouts (from a yellow paper cup) to resemble windows. I am most proud of the overall construction of the project because I made it to a bigger scale than I was comfortable with, but I feel I was successful and the project looks sturdy and neat. I believe this project shows my artistry and tells a story about my history/memories in the city.
My ultimate goal was to construct more of a realistic piece, but I don’t feel that if someone were to glance at my project that they would ultimately recognize that it was the Sears Tower. This assignment made me very nostalgic and appreciate the city.
Veteran's Day Project
This specific project in this unit is very special to me and many. The veterans in this community and throughout the Nation are such incredible people that need to be greatly appreciated by everyone for making our beautiful country what it is today. My piece is a tribute to the Veterans as a thank-you. I drew a flag with an outline of a soldier’s head in the middle, I tried to do this so the soldier was the main focus. I cut out poppies and put them on the bottom of the page for a remembrance of the brave men and women who have died serving our country. I chose to put this all on a watercolor paper and I used watercolor pencils for the majority of the piece. I did this because I wanted to resemble a drippy, distressed look. I wanted to symbolize the blood shed for our country and our freedom.
I am most proud of the soldier in the middle. I feel it is easy to point out that it is obviously a soldier, and I am glad because that is what I wanted to be the main focus of my project.
The ultimate goal of my piece was to make people feel good and patriotic and appreciate our amazing Veterans. I believe by the reactions of people in my class, as I was working, they had felt the way that I wanted this artwork to capture, so I feel somewhat successful in that.
This project helped me really see how important the incredible people are in the development of our country. Without them, we could not be in the place we are now. Thank you Veterans.
Still Life Project
In my still life Project, I am most proud of my grease container. I like this because I feel it is the focus point of my piece and that It is very well shaded. I feel like my craftsmanship is really noticeable and you can tell my style of drawing is very different from others. My project was neat and put together well. The ultimate goal was to shade efficiently and make the project somewhat realistic, but I feel I always lack this in my art. I don’t exactly know why, but in my opinion, it looks a bit cartoonish.I could have improved more on my realism, and drawing it better to make it more proportional. This project really gave me an understanding on shading values and where to apply them and to see highlights/light sources on an object.
Inverse Drawing
For my inverse drawing I drew figures of girls who represented a Pom Pon team. I drew this because I am currently on the Shepherd Pom Pon team and wanted to draw something that was important to me. In our piece we were supposed to show movement within the figures. I feel my project captures this very well, considering the poses of the girls and the lines drawn around them to symbolize activeness.
In this project I am most proud of the figures because I feel they look somewhat realistic and are fairly neat looking.
I think my Artistry was the strongest in this piece because I drew something that I love and something I participate in, and I think you can learn a lot about me through my work. In the piece I used black colored pencil and white charcoal and grey charcoal.
The ultimate goal of the project was to capture movement in someway and I believe I showed that.
This project made me look at figures differently and now I can clearly see where the joints and muscles and things that make up a person are, and how to portray that in my artwork.
Pop Art Project
For our pop art project, we had to draw a portrait of someone we knew and liven it up with either oil pastels or chalk pastels. For my project I chose to draw myself, since I know myself well, and what I wanted to represent in the piece. I used red, purple, orange, and yellow oil pastels to represent my personality. I chose very bright colors as well as more mellow tones because I seem very reserved when you look at me, but once you get to know me I am more lively and fun.
What I am most proud of in my work is my proportions. I feel I captured to overall realistic look of my features. I feel my craftsmanship is very strong in this project.
My overall goal was to effectively add and blend color and I feel as though I could have done better with this because I was not overly comfortable with oil pastels and was kind of surprised at how they worked.
This project helped me understand myself more and get insight on other people as well.
Acrylic Painting
In our acrylic painting project we got to choose whether we wanted to paint an animal, a portrait, or a landscape. I really liked the overall freedom of this project and how I could be as creative as I wanted to. In my project I chose a picture off of the internet of a portrait of a man. I was drawn to this painting and used it as inspiration.
What I was most proud of in my piece was my color choices and shading with the darker paints and how I went crazy with my background, adding different shades of purples and blending them together to create something semi abstract. I feel like I used the art media really effectively.
The ultimate goal in this project for me was the proportions of the face/jawline. I think after a big struggle, I got it the way I wanted it to look and I felt I was successful.
This project helped me understand the values of color and how to create different shades and blend effectively.
WaterColor Project
For our watercolor project we were required to choose an image off the internet of a landscape that inspired us or wanted to portray in our work. I chose a picture of a field on a starry night. I liked this photo because of the color in it, and how dreamlike it looked. I used purple, blue, pink, yellow and black watercolor in my piece. I used a couple of the taught techniques including, dry brush, cloud, and the blending techniques.
What I am the most proud of in my work is my overall neatness and craftsmanship. I think the overall goal was to use the techniques and be creative. I think I was fairly successful in that.
The watercolor really helped my knowledge of media uses in art and how to blend water and be effective.
